Rothenburg

Last weekend Cameron and I took a day trip to Rothenburg, a city dating back to medieval times. Rothenburg is well preserved from the 17th century. In fact, when Nazi soldiers were occupying  the town during World War II, bombs were dropped over the city destroying several buildings. When the U.S. Assistant Secretary of War heard the news, he ordered the town taken without the use of artillery to protect the historic nature of the town, and the German commander surrendered the town to prevent further damage. Donations to repair the bomb damage was received from all around the world, and  donations are commemorated in the bricks forming the repaired city wall.
Rothenburg is also said to be the inspiration for the town in Pinnochio and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, as well as several international novels and comic books. Check it out on Wikipedia.
This is a picture of our new time-out chair for naughty boys and girls. It is one of the less painful artifacts at the torture museum in Rothenburg. I felt pain just thinking about sitting down on all those spikes!

I hope everyone is taking notes on which places they would like to visit during their trips!
